The Agad Tantra focuses on the study of poisons, their effects, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of acute, chronic, and cumulative toxicity. The term "poison" refers to toxins made by living things and toxic substances that are harmful to humans, such as poisonous plants, heavy metals and their compounds, snake, scorpion, spider, and bee venom, bacterial and non-bacterial food poisoning, and synthetic poisons like insecticide, herbicide, and rodenticide. Additionally, it covers industrial and occupational toxicity, as well as their clinical manifestation, diagnosis, and treatment. Additionally, it covers the acute and chronic toxicity of many drugs of abuse, as well as their withdrawal and management. The Department provides education and training to students at the undergraduate levels in the areas of forensic medicine, legal aspects of medical practise, and the classical Ayurvedic references of Visha (poison), including its detailed description, classifications, and examinations, diseases caused by it, and principles of management and preventive measures.

Agada Tantra is one amongst the eight clinical branches of Ayurveda which deals with identification, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of various Visha(poison) conditions. Students are also trained in Vyavahara Ayurveda ( Forensic medicine) and Vishivaidyaka( Medical Jurisprudence) in this department.
For academic parts, the Department has a large museum with well-organized teaching and learning procedures, including a lot of books in the department library, an updated computer system for every student, topic CDs, an LCD projector for subject studies, and an internet facility. Additionally, the Department is well-stocked with models, tools, charts, and samples of dangerous plants, metals, animals, plants, and acid-alkalis.
The department also arranges several field trips for students to visit government hospitals, courts and postmortem facilities to further their practical understanding.
1. To create medical professionals who are knowledgeable about their legal and ethical obligations when practising medicine.
2. To provide Ayurveda graduates with the ability to observe and draw conclusions through logical reasoning in order to direct investigations into criminal behaviour and related medicolegal issues in the proper direction.
3. Delivering clinical treatment to patients through daily OPD and specialty clinics, including those who are outpatients, inpatients, and community-based.
4. Health education and addiction disorder prevention through camps.

7. Offering cognitive behavioural treatments including music therapy, individual and group counselling, etc.
The students pursuing BAMS degrees get detailed knowledge about the study of laws and jurisprudence related to the practice of Agadtantra and Vyavahara. The Department allows an enormous scope of research, and teaching is possible for undergraduate students in this Department.
