ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Shalakya Tantra is one of the eight major clinical specialties of Ayurveda, dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and management of diseases occurring above the clavicle (Urdhvajatrugata Vikara). It encompasses the study of Netra (Ophthalmology), Karna (Otorhinolaryngology), Nasa (Rhinology), Mukha & Danta (Oral Medicine and Dentistry), and Shiro Roga (Diseases of the Head) as described in classical Ayurvedic texts, particularly the Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya, and Charaka Samhita.
The department provides comprehensive education in classical Ayurvedic principles along with modern diagnostic and clinical approaches. Students receive extensive theoretical knowledge, practical demonstrations, clinical exposure, and hands-on training in various therapeutic procedures such as Anjana, Aschyotana, Tarpana, Putapaka, Nasya, Karnapoorana, Kavalagraha, Gandusha, and other Kriyakalpas, preparing them for competent clinical practice, research, and higher education.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

Understand the principles and applications of Shalakya Tantra.
Develop competency in diagnosis and management of ophthalmic, ENT, oral, and head diseases.
Learn Kriyakalpa procedures including Anjana, Aschyotana, Tarpana, Putapaka, Bidalaka, Pindi, Nasya,Karnapoorana, Kavalagraha, and Gandusha.
Acquire practical skills in ophthalmic and ENT examination.
Correlate Ayurvedic concepts with modern ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology.
Promote research and evidence-based practice in Shalakya Tantra
